Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced Thursday that 30 delegations have confirmed their participation in the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia later this month.
Ryabkov indicated that the membership of new countries will be discussed, including Turkey, which submitted its bid to join the organization in September.
He also mentioned that Ukraine may be included on the agenda for the October summit, stating, “Russia was and remains open to a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict.”
The BRICS alliance was established in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2010. The group has recently expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia is considering membership, and Azerbaijan has formally applied to join.
