At just 8 years old, Ella Isimbi Rwalinda has emerged as the winner of the national writing competition for the lower primary category, organized by the Kigali English Library. The competition was themed “Tourism and Environmental Protection.”
Rwalinda, a Primary Three pupil at Groupe Scolaire APACOPE, clinched the top spot in the English category. Her achievement was recognized and rewarded by Dr. Nelson Mbarushimana, the Director General of the Rwanda Education Board.
Rwalinda was not the only student from Groupe Scolaire APACOPE to shine. Louis Mpuhwe Mpano, a Primary Four pupil from the same institution, secured second place in the French category for upper primary students. Both winners received an array of presents, including sport bikes, tablets, and various scholastic materials.
Dr. Mbarushimana commended the winners for their excellence, emphasizing the importance of students’ active participation in such innovative competitions. “As students, you have a personal role to improve your education standards. Participating in such innovative competitions is one way to achieve this,” he stated.
He also urged parents to support their children’s educational endeavors, highlighting their significant role in shaping a bright future for the next generation.
Rugwizangoga Michaella, the Tourism Chief Officer at the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), echoed these sentiments during the award ceremony. She emphasized the importance of nurturing tourism from a young age. “Tourism is one of the country’s major economic activities and young people like you are best placed to keep it moving,” she remarked.
Rwalinda’s father, Elisee Nshimyumuremyi, expressed his joy and pride at his daughter’s accomplishment. “We have tried our best to offer good education for our daughter and GS APACOPE has been at the forefront of this. With this achievement, the sky is surely the limit,” an ecstatic Nshimyumuremyi said.
The national writing competition has not only celebrated young talents but also reinforced the importance of education, tourism, and environmental protection among the youth.
