Airtel Kenya is set to boost its investment in network infrastructure with the aim of expanding its customer base nationwide. The Chief Executive Officer, Ashish Malhotra, announced plans to develop 1,000 network sites within the next year and increase 5G network coverage from 450 to 600 sites. The company is committing over Sh23 billion to this expansion.
Speaking in Meru town during the opening of a new Airtel Shop, Mr. Malhotra emphasized the company’s focus on attracting more subscribers through affordable and convenient services. He stated, “Our intention is to improve network access, affordability of services, and customer-care footprint across the country. By the end of this month, we intend to roll out 25 more 5G sites across the country, closing the year at 475 sites.”
The newly opened Meru branch marks the 66th Airtel Customer Care shop in the country. Mr. Malhotra highlighted the introduction of ‘Internet Mashinani,’ designed to enhance access to 4G networks nationwide. He expressed the company’s commitment to providing an affordable 5G network in areas lacking fiber connectivity.
“We are offering affordable 4G and 5G-enabled devices with budget-friendly unlimited data options. This initiative will significantly contribute to increasing home broadband connectivity under our Internet Mashinani program,” he explained.
