Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson was unanimously voted the 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player, the league announced Sunday.
Wilson received all 67 first-place votes from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, becoming the first player to achieve a unanimous MVP selection since Cynthia Cooper of the Houston Comets in the league’s inaugural season in 1997.
This marks Wilson’s third MVP award, having previously won in 2020 and 2022. She ties the record for the most MVP honors, joining legends Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson.
The 28-year-old center had an outstanding season, averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.58 blocks, and 1.79 steals over 38 games. She led the league in both scoring and blocks and finished second in rebounds per game.
Wilson shattered single-season records for scoring and rebounding and became the first player in WNBA history to lead the league in total points, rebounds, and blocks in a single season.
Her remarkable performance helped propel the Aces to fourth in the WNBA standings, securing a playoff spot. Las Vegas is pursuing a historic third consecutive championship, having won the title in the previous two seasons. The team’s first-round playoff series against the Seattle Storm begins on Sunday.
