The incident occurred in the 85th minute of a Campeonato Paulista match between hosts Novorizontino and Corinthians. The visitors had taken the lead in the 66th minute, breaking a scoreless deadlock. Celebrating the goal, Corinthians supporters ignited flares, creating a dense haze that forced officials to pause the match until visibility improved.
Despite the delay, Corinthians held on for a 1-0 victory, moving to the top of the league standings. The club has won the Campeonato Paulista title more times than any other team.
