Bruce Melodie Nominated for Best East African Artiste at the 2024 Headies

Rwandan music sensation Bruce Itahiwacu, popularly known as Bruce Melodie, has earned a coveted nomination at the 17th edition of Nigeria’s prestigious Headies Awards. The ‘Katerina’ hitmaker is in the running for Best East African Artiste of 2024, competing against heavyweights in the region, including Kenyan star Bien Aime and Tanzanian icons Diamond Platnumz, Jux, and Miss Azawi.

This nomination marks another significant milestone for Bruce Melodie, who has been making waves across Africa, particularly following the release of his debut album, Colorful Generation. The album, which has received widespread acclaim, features collaborations with top artists such as Nigeria’s Joeboy and Bien Aime, further cementing his place in the continental music scene.

For Bruce Melodie, this nomination adds to his growing list of accolades, including winning the Primus Guma Guma Super Star (PGGSS) competition, Rwanda’s most prestigious music contest, and being recognized as the Best Rwandan Artist at the 2023 Trace Awards. With his expanding influence in the African music industry, the Rwandan star continues to position himself as a formidable force in the global entertainment scene.

The Headies, returning to Nigeria after two years in the United States, remains one of Africa’s most respected music award platforms. The 2024 edition promises to be highly competitive, with some of the most celebrated hits and albums from 2023 to 2024 being recognized. Alongside the Best East African Artiste category, the award show also features nominations for Best Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best R&B Single, and Best Collaboration, among others.

According to the Headies, only music materials—including singles, videos, live recordings, EPs, and albums—released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, were eligible for nomination. The recently announced list of nominees sees Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck leading the pack with seven nominations, followed closely by Ayra Starr and Shallipopi, who each secured three nods.
