Chima Udoye emerged as the winner of Nigerian Idol’s ninth season, claiming the title and a ₦30 million cash prize. The finale, held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, marked the culmination of months of competition among Nigeria’s top performers and vocalists.
The intense final episode began with the top 10 contestants performing John Legend’s “Glory.” Highlights included performances by past winners such as Progress from Season 7 and Victory Gbakara from Season 8, who showcased their talents alongside guest artists like Chike and Simi before the top three finalists took the stage.
Chima Udoye, renowned for his charisma and vocal prowess, consistently impressed judges 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani throughout the season. Omawumi noted during the finale that Chima’s competition was with himself, underscoring his growth and capability beyond the confines of the competition.
Specializing in jazz and soul, Chima aimed to use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others, a goal he fulfilled as he claimed victory after 12 weeks of competition. Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content & Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, praised Chima’s resilience and achievement during her speech at the finale.
In addition to the ₦30 million cash prize, Chima received a brand new SUV, a DStv Explora with a one-year premium subscription, and a music deal that includes a music video, completing a comprehensive grand prize package.
