Chorale de Kigali, Rwanda’s oldest Catholic choir, is gearing up for its highly-anticipated annual Christmas Carols concert on December 17 at BK Arena. The renowned choir, founded in 1966 in Kigali, is set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this festive event.
With over one hundred active members, Chorale de Kigali diligently dedicates three rehearsal sessions each week to prepare for the concert. Valentin Bigango, a leader at the choir, revealed that this year’s performance will be particularly special with the return of young children to the lineup, a highlight absent in recent years. Fans actively participated in song selection through a voting process, resulting in the inclusion of top three songs: ‘Champions League Anthem,’ ‘Chiquitita,’ and ‘Bound for the Promised Land.’
The key founders of Chorale de Kigali, including Claver Karangwa, Leon Mbarushimana, Callixte Kalisa, Paulin Muswahili, and Saulve Iyamuremye, played pivotal roles in establishing the choir’s legacy. With over 150 members, the choir’s demographic includes 60 percent young people.
As an undisputed music ensemble in the Catholic Church, Chorale de Kigali has had the privilege of performing at prominent concerts, participating in religious festivals, and composing lyrics for various musical bodies. The choir continues to be a symbol of musical excellence and a cherished tradition for the Christmas season in Rwanda. Don’t miss the chance to witness their unique performance at BK Arena on December 17.
