Nigeria’s Dangote Oil Refinery, the largest in Africa, is set to begin full operations within the next 30 days, marking a significant milestone for the country’s energy sector.
Located in Lagos, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery was built by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote and is expected to transform Nigeria’s fuel supply by reducing reliance on imported refined products. Since launching operations in January last year, the facility has produced diesel, naphtha, and jet fuel, with petrol production beginning in September.
Despite challenges in securing a steady supply of crude oil locally, the refinery is poised to compete with European refiners and expand exports across Africa and beyond once it reaches full capacity.
The refinery is expected to create jobs, boost Nigeria’s economy, and lower the country’s fuel import costs, solidifying its role as a key player in the global energy market.
