David Nkurunziza has been elected as the new president of the Kiyovu Sports Association for a four-year term, following elections held during the club’s general assembly on Sunday, May 26. Nkurunziza assumes the role previously held by Jean-François Regis Ndorimana, who resigned from the position in January.
The elections were conducted after the general assembly requested the outgoing executive committee to step down, allowing new candidates to vie for leadership positions within the club. Despite being a relatively lesser-known figure among Kiyovu Sports supporters, Nkurunziza secured the confidence of the general assembly. He steps into office at a challenging time for the club, which has faced financial difficulties and administrative struggles.
Joseph Karangwa was also elected as the club’s vice-president.
Former club president Juvénal Mvukiyehe, reportedly owed a substantial sum of Rwf1 billion by the club, was denied entry to the assembly room.
