Egypt and Mozambique played to a 2-2 draw in their opening 2024 Africa Cup of Nations match on Sunday 14 January.
0-15 minutes: Egypt dominated the early stages of the match and took the lead in the 2nd minute with Mostafa Mohamed getting his name on the scoreboard.
16-30 minutes: Mozambique battled to cope with Egypt’s pressure during the first 30 minutes of the game and were met by aggressive tackling in the middle of the park.
46-60 minutes: While Egypt went into the break with a slender 1-0 lead, Mozambique levelled matters 10 minutes into the restart as Witi opened his AFCON account. Os Mambas then took the lead in the 58th minute, with Clesio Baque joining Witi on the scoresheet.
76-90 minutes: Egypt were awarded a penalty 93rd minute of the match, with VAR called to review a foul inside the Mozambique 18-yard-area. With the referee returning to the pitch after assessing the incident on the touchline monitor, Salah slotted the ball away with ease.
