Equity Bank Rwanda has officially welcomed 36 scholars into the third cohort of its flagship initiative, the Equity Leaders Program. The selected scholars, drawn from the top-performing students in the 2023 Rwanda National Secondary Leaving Exams, underwent a comprehensive one-week induction and training program.
During the induction, participants engaged with leaders from various industries, including the Equity Group leadership team. Key discussions focused on essential topics such as leadership, personal advancement, and community development, fostering a well-rounded learning experience.
The Equity Leaders Program (ELP), falling under Equity Group Foundation’s (EGF) Education and Leadership Development pillar, is specifically designed to empower academically gifted youth. The initiative operates in Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), reflecting its commitment to nurturing talent across the region.
Since its launch in Rwanda in 2021, the Equity Leaders Program has made a significant impact, positively influencing over 102 students. Several scholars have successfully transitioned to esteemed local and international universities, including prestigious Ivy League institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, and Princeton University.
The commissioning event was honored by the presence of Dr. James Mwangi, CEO of the Equity Group Foundation; Mr. Hanninfton Namara, MD of Equity Bank Rwanda; and Dr. Abdallah Utumatwishima, the Honorable Minister of Youth and Arts. The gathering celebrated the continued success of the program in shaping the academic and professional trajectories of the region’s brightest minds.
