The Kip Keino Classic, part of the Continental Tour Gold series, is set to electrify the Nyayo Stadium this Saturday with a stellar lineup of international track and field stars. The event promises thrilling contests across various disciplines, with top Kenyan athletes pitted against global competitors.
In the men’s 100m, African record-holder Ferdinand Omanyala aims for his third consecutive victory at the Kip Keino Classic. Omanyala, a standout performer and Commonwealth Games champion, will face stiff competition from Kenneth Bednarek, the Olympic 200m silver medalist from the USA, European U23 champion Jeremiah Azu, and Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse.
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, a double world medalist, is the one to watch in the men’s 200m. After a strong start this year, including a world 300m best and leading times in the 200m and 400m, Tebogo will make his debut at the Classic. He holds fond memories of Nairobi, where he claimed his first world U20 100m title. “I am proud of what I achieved in Nairobi last time, and I am raring to go,” said Tebogo. However, he faces tough competition from the likes of Courtney Lindsey of the USA, Canada’s Brendon Rodney, and Italy’s Eseosa Desalu.
The women’s 100m sees the return of Namibia’s Christine Mboma, an Olympic 200m bronze medalist. Mboma will race against Jamaican sprinter Alana Reid, double African Games champion Gina Bass, world indoor finalist Rani Rosius, and USA’s Shannon Ray.
Additionally, the men’s 400m features Olympic champion Bryce Deadmon from the USA, who will compete against Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori and France’s Gilles Biron, both seasoned relay medalists.
With such a high-caliber field, the Kip Keino Classic is set to be a highlight of athletics’ calendar, showcasing some of the best talents in track and field.
