Samuel Eto’o, the legendary Cameroonian soccer player and current president of the Cameroon Football Federation, has been banned by FIFA from attending any national team games for six months. The ban was announced on Monday.
Eto’o faced two charges stemming from an incident at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia on September 11, during a round of 16 match in which Brazil defeated Cameroon 3-1 after extra time. FIFA did not provide specific details regarding the incident.
The governing body ruled that Eto’o violated disciplinary regulations related to “offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play,” as well as misconduct involving officials.
According to FIFA, the ban prohibits Eto’o from attending matches involving all categories and age groups of Cameroonian teams. This six-month suspension includes important fixtures, such as men’s national team games in the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Eto’o, 43, represented Cameroon in four World Cups from 1998 to 2014, scoring a record 56 goals for the Indomitable Lions. He was part of two Africa Cup of Nations championship teams in 2000 and 2002 and enjoyed a successful club career, winning three Champions League titles, including consecutive victories in 2009 with Barcelona and 2010 with Inter Milan.
