Four golfers have secured spots to represent Rwanda at the BPR International Golf Tournament, scheduled for December 6 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Their qualification follows impressive performances at the BPR-KCB Golf Tournament held at Kigali Golf Resort and Villas from October 25 to 26. The standout competitors included winner Pastor Barnabas Nganga, first runner-up Benjamin Mukisa, second runner-up Olwit Anthony, and fourth-placed Alphosine Murekatete, all of whom were selected to compete in Nairobi.
At the awards ceremony on Saturday night, BPR Bank Rwanda Managing Director Patience Mutesi praised the tournament as a testament to the bank’s successful sponsorship of golf.
“We had 200 golfers participating in the competition, and this is a true reflection that our investment is on course,” Mutesi said. “We have been partnering with golf for several years, and I can assure you that BPR Bank and golf will have a long-term partnership.”
Kigali Golf Resort and Villas captain Andrew Kulayige also commended the progress of golf in Rwanda. “Five years ago, we struggled to find sponsors for golf. Now, things have changed, and we have more sponsors on board, including BPR Bank,” he said. “We now have more than 600 registered golfers, and partnerships like this bring out the best golfers.”
In addition to the four qualifiers, other winners at the tournament included Alice Rwigema, who won in the Handicap 0-18 ladies’ category, and Dr. Charles Gahima, who topped the seniors category. Ivan Kwizera excelled in the men’s Handicap 10-19, while Melissa Akaniyi claimed prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin in the women’s division.
William Nshohe won for the longest drive in the men’s category, and Vincent Mugabo took home the prize for nearest to the pin for men. Olivia Ntambara excelled in the women’s Handicap 19-26 category, Arthur Mugunga won in the Handicap 0-9 category, and Nigeria’s Kola Adebayor topped the Guests Category.
