Girlfriend Allowance: To Give Or Not To Give?

Money has always been a hot topic in relationships, sparking numerous debates and discussions. From who pays for cab fares after visits to how much one should earn before considering a relationship, financial issues frequently emerge in social media conversations.

One particularly intriguing aspect of this ongoing dialogue is the concept of giving a girlfriend money at the end of each month for her upkeep, known as the “Bae Allowance.”

The Bae Allowance refers to the money a man provides his girlfriend monthly for her miscellaneous needs. This practice, often seen as a gesture of love and appreciation, has its supporters and detractors. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that there’s nothing inherently wrong with this practice. There’s no rule about how often or how much money should be given; it entirely depends on the individuals involved.

It’s not illogical for a man to want to spoil his partner in ways he deems fit. If providing a monthly allowance is one way he chooses to appreciate her presence in his life, he shouldn’t face criticism for it. For those men who feel comfortable and happy giving a Bae Allowance, it is admirable and kind. They should never be discouraged by others if they see no issue with it.

Every financial gift between partners, whether given monthly or less frequently, should be appreciated for what it is—a gift. These gestures should not be treated as contractual obligations. Your boyfriend does not owe you the duty of gifting you money, just as you do not owe him the duty of cooking his meals or tidying up his apartment during visits.

People should engage in these acts because they want to and are capable of doing so, not because they are compelled. While there are certain expectations in relationships that can be rightfully demanded, a monthly allowance, as pleasant as it may be, isn’t one of them.

In the end, the essence of such practices lies in mutual appreciation and willingness. Financial gestures in a relationship should be about enhancing the bond, not creating obligations.
