Bugesera FC head coach Francis Haringingo has committed to assembling a stronger team poised to challenge any opponent in the forthcoming season, following their narrow escape from relegation in the recently concluded Primus National League campaign.
The orange-clad squad found themselves teetering on the edge of relegation until a resounding 3-0 victory over Etoile de l’Est on their home turf, Ngoma Stadium, secured their position in the top division. Etoile de l’Est’s defeat relegated them to the second tier.
“I am confident that next season, everyone will witness the potential of our team — not only in participation but also in clinching trophies,” Haringingo expressed.
“We take pride in last season’s accomplishment. Moving forward, our objective is to craft a competitive squad capable of securing championship titles,” he emphasized.
Despite reaching the Peace Cup final, where they were ultimately defeated by eventual champions Police FC, Haringingo believes Bugesera FC can aim higher, especially now that they’ve secured their top-flight status.
“While I’m pleased we maintained our place in the top division, I believe we could have achieved more than just securing victory in the final game. Nevertheless, retaining our top-tier status and reaching the Peace Cup final is commendable. I am optimistic that Bugesera will field an even stronger team next season,” Haringingo remarked.
The Burundian coach is currently in discussions with Bugesera FC regarding a contract extension. He assumed the helm after Eric Nshimiyimana’s dismissal on November 14 due to a string of poor results in the Primus National League.
Bugesera FC concluded the 2023-24 league season in 13th place with 32 points.
Haringingo boasts previous successes, having clinched the Peace Cup twice — first with Mukura in 2018 and most recently with Rayon Sports. He has also coached in the Kenyan Premier League with Sofapaka.
Bugesera FC is preparing for the upcoming season with a proposed budget exceeding Rwf600 million. Discussions with potential partners and sponsors are underway to secure additional funding.
