Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has suggested he may seek a fourth term in office, although his party has not yet made a formal decision ahead of the 2025 election.
In a speech to diplomats on Thursday, January 8, Ouattara, 83, said, “I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country,” marking his clearest indication yet that he is open to another bid for the presidency.
Ouattara, who controversially secured a third term in 2020, had previously expressed a desire to retire. However, he has hinted that his decision on running again could depend on whether his long-time political rivals also step down from the political stage.
In September, his party signaled support for another candidacy, but an official announcement has yet to be made. Ivory Coast’s presidential election is scheduled for October 2025.
