Jake Paul defeated 58-year-old Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in a disappointing eight-round bout that left 70,000 fans unimpressed. The fight, streamed worldwide on Netflix, saw Paul dominate the aging former heavyweight champion, with judges scoring the contest 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
Tyson, who has not fought professionally in 19 years, struggled throughout the bout. At 58, he was slow and sluggish, landing only 18 punches compared to Paul’s 78. Despite an early right hand that briefly troubled Paul, Tyson’s lack of stamina was evident as the fight wore on. Paul, 27, used his youth and athleticism to control the pace, landing jabs and clean punches, including a wobbling left hook in the third round.
Tyson, who was greeted with a hero’s reception before the fight, received boos as the bout neared its conclusion. Fans began leaving before the judges’ scores were announced.
Post-fight, Tyson, who suffered his seventh loss in 57 career bouts, hinted at a possible return to the ring, calling out Paul’s brother Logan and suggesting he could fight again.
The event, which generated millions in ticket sales and pay-per-view revenue, was marked by a spectacle designed more for entertainment than competitive boxing. Paul, who made his name on social media before transitioning to boxing, improved to 11-1 as a professional, with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury last year.
Despite the underwhelming contest, Paul continued to call for a fight with Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.
