President Paul Kagame met with Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote on Saturday, May 18, in discussions centered on potential partnerships, investment opportunities, and the imperative of boosting intra-Africa trade.
Dangote, widely regarded as the wealthiest individual on the African continent, was in Kigali for the Africa CEO Forum, a prestigious two-day event that concluded on Friday, May 16, drawing together over 2,500 business leaders and policymakers from across the globe.
According to a statement released by the President’s office, Kagame engaged in talks with Aliko Dangote, founder, chairman, and CEO of the Dangote Group, renowned for its extensive investments across various sectors, including the Dangote Refinery, touted as the largest single-train refinery globally.
“The discussions centered on opportunities for collaboration and investment, along with the urgent necessity to enhance intra-Africa trade,” the statement read.
During his address to the delegates at the CEO Forum on Friday, May 17, Dangote expressed unwavering optimism about Africa’s economic trajectory, emphasizing the continent’s potential for transformation and global significance.
“I am very excited because, going forward, the future is Africa. We have what it takes to make Africa great. That is why, I am not only putting in my own money, I am putting in my soul in Africa to make Africa great,” Dangote affirmed, highlighting his steadfast commitment to Africa’s prosperity.
