NEP DJs, comprised of Berto and Habz, have inked a significant two-year contract with the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA), designating them as the official disc spinners and entertainment coordinators for the federation’s upcoming seasons.
The dynamic DJ duo, affiliated with the NEP Family, a cluster of sister companies under RG Consult, sealed the deal on Tuesday, April 23, at FERWABA headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda.
According to FERWABA, the addition of NEP DJs aims to enhance the overall basketball experience, coordinating entertainment activities during tournaments and infusing music into the game.
“We’re thrilled to welcome NEP DJs as our inaugural music coordinators. Their presence promises to elevate the atmosphere at basketball courts and draw music enthusiasts to our games”
Bertrand Kaysan Iyarwema, also known as Berto of NEP DJs, being the first DJs signed by FERWABA reflects the evolution of Rwanda’s music scene and its impact on various aspects of life, notably basketball.
“Having played at numerous basketball events, we’ve witnessed firsthand how music enhances the sport. This opportunity allows us to further intertwine music with basketball, marking a significant milestone in our career,” Berto expressed that he is pledging to deliver captivating experiences filled with vibrant vibes and quality music to basketball matches.
Moreover, Berto emphasized the broader significance of this achievement, urging fellow entertainers, particularly DJs, to explore opportunities beyond clubs and pubs. He highlighted the potential for music to transcend traditional settings and advocated for its role in promoting healthy activities like sports and arts, aligning with Rwanda’s Tunyweless campaign to reduce alcohol consumption.
NEP DJs join a growing trend of local musicians venturing into basketball, exemplified by Bruce Melodie’s support for the United Generation (UGB) basketball team earlier this year, underlining the fusion of music and sports in Rwanda.
Renowned for their electrifying performances at major local events such as the All-Star Game & Concert 2022, East African Party, and Jazz Junction, NEP DJs have graced the stage alongside international stars like Jidenna, Kiss Daniel, and Adekunle Gold.
With their signature matching outfits and a repertoire of solo events like Rave Party and Up Town Sunday, the duo has cemented their status as household names in Rwanda’s entertainment scene.
