Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was greeted with a fervent reception at Istanbul Airport early Tuesday as he arrived to join Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.
The 25-year-old was surrounded by media and enthusiastic fans, marking what many saw as a surprising transfer. Osimhen, who scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli, revealed he had spoken with his former Napoli teammate, Belgian Dries Mertens, now at Galatasaray, prior to finalizing the move.
Osimhen had also been linked with potential transfers to Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League. Reports indicate that his loan deal with Galatasaray includes a break clause, allowing him the option to make a permanent move in January when the transfer window reopens.
