Over 300 Climbers to Scale Mount Kilimanjaro To Celebrate Tanzania’s Independence

In a bid to mark the Uhuru celebrations and promote Tanzania’s tourism sector, more than 300 individuals are expected to embark on a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro this year. The special annual campaign, organized by Kilimanjaro National Parks (KINAPA) in collaboration with other stakeholders, aims to increase the number of climbers and showcase the diverse attractions the mountain has to offer.

To achieve their target, KINAPA has introduced two additional climbing routes this season. In addition to the commonly used Marangu Gate, participants will have the opportunity to climb through Machame and Lemosho gates. This expansion of routes is expected to boost the number of climbers from 165 in 2021 and 200 last year to an impressive 320 climbers this year.

Aside from the celebratory aspect of the campaign, Zara Tours, the coordinating company, also emphasizes its role in supporting the government’s efforts to promote the tourism sector. With President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiation of the Royal Tour Tanzania film, tourism stakeholders have been motivated to enhance their services to solidify Tanzania’s position as a premier tourist destination on the African continent.

The campaign includes various events aimed at education and conservation. Students will be educated about Mount Kilimanjaro’s economic importance and how to preserve its environment. A tree planting exercise will also take place to enhance the region’s ecological well-being.

Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu commended Zara Tours and other tourism stakeholders for their contribution to the campaign, which aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to elevate the tourism sector.

Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, continues to captivate climbers and adventure seekers from around the world. With its natural beauty and diverse attractions, Tanzania’s tourism industry looks forward to welcoming more tourists and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
