President Paul Kagame urged Rwanda’s youth to “protect, defend, and make Rwanda prosperous,” emphasizing that their role is crucial in ensuring the nation’s success beyond mere survival.
He addressed the young population on July 4 at Amahoro stadium, where thousands gathered to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation, led by the RPF-Inkotanyi.
The anniversary marks the triumph over the genocidal regime responsible for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for Rwanda’s freedom.
Kagame highlighted that true liberation comes from the free choices made by individuals, stressing Rwanda’s path to peace through collective commitment.
“To those born in the past 30 years of rebuilding,” Kagame stated, “this country is yours to protect, defend, and make prosperous.”
He emphasized that Rwanda’s current struggle transcends survival, aiming for prosperity and dignity. “We succeed by overcoming poverty, achieving independence, and standing as a dignified nation,” Kagame affirmed.
“You have the freedom and opportunity to live the lives you want,” he said, urging young Rwandans to uphold civic values, participate actively, and contribute to nation-building.
The national celebrations included a military parade by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and cultural performances, showcasing Rwanda’s rich heritage and progress since liberation.
Denise Kiberinka, attending the ceremony, expressed gratitude to RPF-Inkotanyi for bringing peace and unity to Rwanda, saying, “Being here in this stadium is proof enough of our liberation.”
