Nigerian superstar Rema, known for his hit records and sold-out concerts, recently debuted his sophomore album ‘HEIS’ on July 11, 2024. The 11-track release has swiftly claimed the record for Spotify Nigeria’s largest opening week streams of the year, accumulating 2.71 million plays. This achievement surpasses the previous mark of 1.86 million streams set by Olamide’s ‘Ikigai.’
Earlier, Rema’s collaboration with Shallipopi on ‘Benin Boys’ had also set a milestone for 2024’s biggest opening day streams on Spotify Nigeria. The album’s performance places it as the third highest debut day for an album on the platform in Nigeria, trailing only Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ with 2.93 million streams and Davido’s ‘Timeless’ which amassed 4.91 million streams.
While ‘HEIS’ has sparked diverse reactions on social media, with some praising its adventurous musical style and others critiquing its direction, the album underscores Rema’s evolving artistry and bold experimentation as he navigates a new phase of his career.
