A disciplinary panel investigating Kipruto’s case determined that irregularities in his blood samples indicated a systematic doping regimen, likely with assistance from unidentified third parties. This ruling comes at a critical juncture, as Kipruto had been vying for a spot in the Summer Olympics held in Tokyo.
The severity of the penalty reflects what the panel deemed as “aggravating circumstances” surrounding the case, leading to an extended ban beyond the standard four years typically imposed for doping infractions.
The repercussions extend beyond Kipruto’s ban, affecting his competitive history as well. Disqualification from all results since September 2018 nullifies his world championship bronze medal in the 10,000 meters from 2019, alongside relinquishing his 10k road record achieved in 2020.
