Rwanda and Bahamas Sign Visa-Free Travel Agreement

Rwanda and The Bahamas have signed a mutual visa waiver agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel without visa requirements.

Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and Bahamian Foreign Minister Frederick Mitchell signed the memorandum of understanding Monday on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

“This marks a significant step in diplomatic relations between Rwanda and The Bahamas,” the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The agreement applies to all passport holders from both nations, according to the ministry.

In July, Rwandan President Paul Kagame visited The Bahamas as part of a Caribbean tour during the country’s 50th anniversary of independence from Britain. Kagame met with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis, where the two discussed strengthening bilateral relations.

During the visit, Kagame was awarded the Order of Excellence, The Bahamas’ highest honor, in recognition of his friendship with the country.

Kagame and other Caribbean leaders have advocated for increased free movement between Africa and the Caribbean.
