MPost, a leading Kenyan digital postal service, has unveiled its e-PO box service in Rwanda, marking a significant milestone in the country’s postal infrastructure. With this development, over a million Rwandans now have the option to utilize their phone numbers as postal addresses for receiving mail and parcels, eliminating the need to disclose physical addresses.
The introduction of MPost’s e-PO box service aligns closely with Rwanda’s digitalization agenda for public services, ushering in a new era in postal convenience for its citizens. Currently, Rwanda struggles with low post office penetration, with less than 1% of the population connected to postal services, leading to long queues and limited accessibility.
MPost’s innovative e-P.O.Box system allows Rwandan citizens to transform their mobile phone numbers into formal postal addresses, facilitating mail and parcel delivery directly to their mobile-linked e-P.O.Boxes. This solution not only enhances convenience but also fosters inclusivity by enabling more individuals and businesses to access postal services seamlessly.
In a statement, MPost highlighted the potential impact of its platform on e-commerce businesses, foreseeing expanded reach, enhanced customer satisfaction, and reduced delivery times. The company expressed optimism that the adoption of its virtual postal solution will stimulate economic growth, empowering local entrepreneurs and positioning Rwanda as a burgeoning digital commerce hub in the region.
With aspirations to reach over 5 million citizens within the next three years, MPost aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural populations by integrating local postal services and leveraging Rwanda’s high mobile phone penetration.
The rollout of the e-PO box service coincides with MPost’s official entry into Rwanda, following its headquarters relocation from Nairobi to Kigali in November last year, reportedly due to regulatory considerations.
Founded in 2016 by Abdulaziz Omar and Twahir Ahmed, MPost has established itself as a trailblazer in the digital addressing, postal, logistics, and e-commerce sectors, operating in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi.
