Rwanda, Namibia Sign Agreement to Strengthen Correctional Services

The Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) and Namibia Correctional Service have signed a cooperation agreement to enhance collaboration in rehabilitation, training, and correctional management, officials said Tuesday.

The memorandum of understanding was signed during a visit by Namibia Correctional Service Commissioner General Raphael Hamunyela and a delegation of correctional officers. The three-day visit focused on strengthening institutional capacity and sharing best practices in correctional services.

RCS Commissioner General Evariste Murenzi welcomed the agreement, emphasizing its role in fostering mutual benefits between the two nations. “This partnership provides a framework for both countries to exchange knowledge on peace and security matters and strengthen their correctional institutions,” Murenzi said.

Hamunyela underscored the close ties between Rwanda and Namibia, stating that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving correctional systems through training and mutual support. He also highlighted Namibia’s interest in learning from Rwanda’s experience in correctional management.

Both sides expressed eagerness to implement the agreement and explore further opportunities for cooperation.
