#RwandaDecides: President Kagame Secures Landslide Victory

President Paul Kagame, leading the RPF-Inkotanyi coalition, has won the presidential and parliamentary elections held on Monday, July 15, with an overwhelming 99.15 percent of the votes, according to initial results announced by National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa.

With 7,160,864 votes counted so far out of over nine million expected voters, the voter turnout stands at an impressive 98 percent.

Other candidates Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana, received 0.53 percent and 0.32 percent of the votes, respectively.

The breakdown of votes shows Kagame’s dominance across all regions. In the Northern Province, Kagame secured 99.65 percent of the votes, while Habineza and Mpayimana received 0.27 percent and 0.08 percent, respectively. In the Eastern Province, Kagame garnered 99.3 percent, with Habineza at 0.66 percent and Mpayimana at 0.05 percent. In the Western Province, Kagame obtained 99.6 percent, Mpayimana 0.29 percent, and Habineza 0.11 percent.

In the Southern Province, Kagame received 98.6 percent of the votes, while Habineza got 0.73 percent and Mpayimana 0.67 percent. In the City of Kigali, Kagame achieved 98.59 percent, with Habineza at 0.96 percent and Mpayimana at 0.44 percent. Among the diaspora, Kagame received 95.4 percent of the 40,675 votes tallied, with Mpayimana and Habineza getting 2.45 percent and 2.15 percent, respectively.

The NEC is set to announce provisional results on July 20 and final results on July 27, as vote tallying continues.
