A delegation of over 50 figures from Rwanda’s music and fashion scene, spearheaded by pioneers of the Rwandan rap movement Kinyatrap and acclaimed fashion designer Moses Turahirwa of Moshions, has descended upon Paris, France, to showcase the vibrant fusion of sounds and fashion collections crafted in Rwanda, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Among the luminaries representing Rwanda’s creative industries are local music icons including Bushali, B Threy, and Green Ferry’s Dr. Nganji, all revered for their contributions to the rise of Kinyatrap. Their arrival in Paris on Friday, May 17, heralds a series of events including headline concerts, a documentary screening, and participation in a photo exhibition spotlighting the genesis of Kinyatrap.
Organized by Pan African Music, the series of events features a notable photo exhibition titled ‘Rap in Kigali’ currently on display at Theatre Chaillot. The exhibition showcases portraits capturing the essence of the Rwandan rap scene, captured by acclaimed film director and photographer Michiel Robberecht during his recent stint in Kigali.
The journey for the Rwandan artists doesn’t end in Paris. They are slated to perform at the Africa Fest in Lille on May 24, before returning to Paris on May 25 for the ‘Nyege Nyege’ Festival, France edition. In an interview with The New Times, B-Threy expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming shows in France, hinting at possible performances in other major European cities such as Warsaw, Poland.
Simultaneously, the Moshions team, comprising models, designers, photographers, musicians, and more, has converged in the French capital to unveil the latest couture collection, Infaransa. Previously launched at Moshions’ headquarters in Kigali, Rwanda, the Infaransa exhibition commenced on May 16 and will run until May 18, featuring a special pop-up show at Theatre Chaillot on May 17.
