Selena Gomez has announced her engagement to songwriter Benny Blanco. The actress and singer shared the news on Instagram Tuesday, posting a photo of her large engagement ring with the caption, “forever begins now.”
The couple confirmed their relationship last year.
Among those offering congratulations was Gomez’s close friend, pop star Taylor Swift. Gomez posted additional pictures of herself smiling while wearing the ring, as well as one of Blanco embracing her in what appeared to be a closet.
“Hey wait… that’s my wife,” Blanco commented on the post, to which Swift replied, “Yes I will be the flower girl.”
Other celebrities, including rapper Cardi B, actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Suki Waterhouse, and singer Lil Nas X, also sent their well wishes. In an Instagram Story shared with her 423 million followers, Gomez showed a video of herself revealing the ring to loved ones over the phone. “Yes to this,” she said, eliciting cheers from those on the other end of the call.
Gomez, a two-time Grammy-nominated artist, and Blanco previously collaborated on the songs I Can’t Get Enough (2019) and Single Soon (2023). Blanco, who has also worked with Rihanna, Calvin Harris, and Justin Bieber, spoke warmly about Gomez during a May appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“She’s just like the best, most genuine person,” Blanco said. “Everything is completely real. Every day when I wake up, I walk by the mirror, and as I’m walking to her, I ask myself, ‘How did I get here?’ She’s one of the sweetest, most charming, and most humble people I’ve ever met.”
Gomez, best known for her hit song Come & Get It, was previously in a highly publicized on-again, off-again relationship with fellow singer Justin Bieber.
The Texas-born star first rose to fame as a child actress on Barney & Friends and later on the Disney Channel, before establishing herself as a successful singer and actress.
This year, Gomez joined the billionaire celebrity rich list, with a fortune of $1.3 billion (£1 billion), primarily from her Rare Beauty makeup company, according to Bloomberg.
On Monday, she received two Golden Globe nominations: one for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her role in Emilia Pérez and another for best actress in a TV series, musical or comedy, for her role in Only Murders in the Building.
