Tanzania Ships First Honey Shipment to China

Tanzania made its first-ever shipment of honey to China on Wednesday, sending 10 metric tons of the product to the Asian market.

The honey, procured by East Africa Commercial and Logistics Center (EACLC) Ltd, a Chinese international trade company, was exported through Weihai Huatan Supply Chain Management Company Ltd, the parent company of EACLC. The shipment departed from Dar es Salaam Port and is expected to reach Weihai Port in China within 27 days.

Dr. Lisa Wang Xiangyun, chairperson of EACLC, praised the high quality and quantity of the Tanzanian honey. She said the shipment not only delivers “natural and healthy products” to Chinese consumers but also opens up new opportunities for Tanzania’s honey industry.

“The successful export of this batch of honey fully reflects the company’s stringent standards and the potential of Tanzania’s honey industry,” Wang said.

Selemani Jafo, Tanzania’s Minister for Industry and Trade, described the shipment as a demonstration of the country’s honey industry potential on the global market, pointing to Tanzania’s rich forests and savannas as ideal conditions for beekeeping.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, called the shipment a significant milestone in trade relations between the two countries.

Tanzanian honey was first introduced to the Chinese market at the seventh China International Import Expo in Shanghai last month.
