Just days ahead of the 2023 CAF Awards scheduled for Monday, December 11th, the Confederation of African Football has disclosed the top three nominees for all categories.
In the men’s category, Victor Osimhen of Nigeria, recently crowned the best player by the Italian football federation, leads the list. Osimhen, who scored 31 goals last season, currently holds six to his name.
Mohammed Salah, the winger for Liverpool, also secures a spot in the top 3. The Egyptian is presently the second top scorer in the Premier League this season.
Achraf Hakimi, representing French club Paris Saint Germain, completes the trio of contenders. Hakimi played a pivotal role in guiding Morocco’s Atlas Lions to the semi-finals of the last World Cup.
Turning to the women’s category, the top three nominees are Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria, Barcelona), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa, Racing Louisville), and Barbara Banda (Zambia, Shanghai Shengli).
The ultimate winners in each category will be determined through votes cast by a panel consisting of the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals from member associations, head coaches, captains, and clubs participating in the group stages of interclub competitions.
