Zamalek supporters erupted in jubilation late into Sunday night following their club’s triumph over Morocco’s RS Berkane, securing victory in the continent’s second most prestigious club competition.
The Cairo-based outfit clinched the trophy on aggregate after entering the return fixture at the Cairo International Stadium trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Morocco a week prior.
Forward Ahmed Hamdi propelled Zamalek ahead in the 23rd minute, leveling the tie and sealing the title for the Egyptians on away goals.
This marks the second Confederation Cup title for Zamalek, adding to their previous victory in the 2018/2019 season. Notably, both triumphs came at the expense of Berkane, who were defeated in a penalty shootout during their first encounter.
Despite Berkane’s relentless pursuit of an equalizer, their efforts were hampered when defender Hamza el Moussaoui received a straight red card for a late foul in the game.
Undeterred, Berkane continued to mount attacks in a bid to breach Zamalek’s sturdy defense.
